First Thursday Book Club

Over the Christmas holiday period we will be reading –
Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas
At over 500 pages, this is our biggest project so far, but the book is enormously popular, has received excellent reviews and we have two whole months to read it! Copies are available from the Booknook. Pick up your copy and join us for our first meeting in 2011 on February 10. Please note we have put our meeting back a week so everyone is free to attend our church prayer gathering.

First Thursday Book Club

Thursday November 11 at 7.45pm (postponed from Nov 4)

A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life and foibles from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to ‘Our Father Below’. At once wildly comic, deadly serious and strikingly original, C.S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man.

Copies are available from the booknook. This is our last meeting for the year. For address details contact the church office 9534 2699.

First Thursday Book Club

Thursday October 14 at 7.45pm
If you’ve been waiting for a really effective riposte to the ‘new atheism’ of Richard Dawkins and others, here it is – gently humorous, highly readable, deeply serious, razor sharp, and written by an internationally respected scientist. Who made God? dismantles the arguments and pretensions of scientific atheism and presents a robust biblical theism as a positive, and altogether more convincing, alternative.

Why not pick up a copy of Who made God from the booknook at church, have a read, and join us at our October meeting. You will be most welcome. Email the church office for more details.
